The newly designed third generation Barracuda hit showrooms on a completely new E-Body platform designed by John Herlitz. It would be shorter and wider that its predecessor, and although shared similarities to its Dodge sibling, had zero interchangeable body parts. Offered only in Coupe and Convertible form, you could choose a base model, luxurious Gran Coupe, or sport 'Cuda models. The wider stance was necessitated by the need for more engine space to accommodate the big block powerplants available as the 440ci and 426ci Hemi V8's. These high-performance inspired engine options required uprated suspension and drivetrain components to better deliver power to the ground! Today, they are highly sought after and continue to appeal to a broad array of classic car enthusiasts, both young and old!
We are very proud to offer this beautifully restored 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda Hardtop Coupe showing off a repaint of its original high impact color option of “FJ5” Limelight Green over “H6X9” Black Vinyl bucket seat interior! Under the hood of this 'Cuda is its number's matching 440ci Super Commando Six Pak which features triple 2-barrel Holly carburetors producing 390 horsepower with 490 lbs-ft of torque! All this power finds its way to the road through its original 4-speed manual transmission and a Track Pak Dana 60 Sure-Grip axle with a 3:54:1 ratio. Exterior features include power front disc brakes, PerTronix electric ignition system, Rallye dual scoop hood with hood pins, fog lamps, black hockey stick 440 call-out stripes, dual painted sport mirrors with remote operated driver side, polished rocker trim, satin silver grille, 14” Rallye wheels with chrome trim rings wrapped in 235/60R14 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires and a full size spare. On the interior you will find a Chrysler solid state AM radio, Hurst pistol grip shifter, front bucket seats, center console with faux woodgrain trim, wood rimmed steering wheel, column-mounted Auto Meter tachometer, Rallye instrumentation, exhaust headers, and AutoMeter gauges for monitoring engine water temperature and oil pressure.
With a build date of November 5th, 1969, this is 1 of only 902 'Cuda coupes to come equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. Also rare in terms of the engine as the V-code 440ci with the triple carburetor set-up was a short-lived legend that is forever treasured among collectors who want that extra muscle and quick response when they step on the accelerator. This 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda underwent a meticulous restoration that still presents amazingly well. The process started in 1999 as it went through a full bare metal preparation for paint with the engine and complete interior both removed and refurbished. Dynamat was installed in the interior and the engine was painted along with all the suspension parts and undercarriage for a true show stopping presentation! Based on numerous restoration photographs provided, dates indicate the car was completed around 2007. Most recent 2022 repairs saw all 3 carburetors rebuilt along with new fuel sending unit, fuel lines and filler neck grommet, spark plugs & ignition wires, distributor cap & rotor, and radiator hoses & clamps.
This Plymouth shows 816 miles on the odometer and is believed to be the miles driven since completion. It has spent most of its life in Washington state where it was garage kept and carefully restored over multiple years. Included with this vehicle is complete photo documentation of the restoration process along with copious receipts of regular maintenance and repairs dating back to the late 1970s all the way to the most recent repairs of 2022. Also included will be 2 sets of keys, a complete car cover, an original Plymouth 'Cuda showroom brochure and a Plymouth poster. Thank you for your interest in this one of a kind 'Cuda that is sure not to last long in our showroom so please call us directly with any questions and to schedule a visit to our museum!
