Arguably the greatest pony car of all time debuted its first model in April 1964, the Ford Mustang, just weeks after the Plymouth Barracuda. The now famous name and body styling of the 1st generation of Mustangs were popular from the very start selling over 400,000 units in its first year and reaching 1 million within its second year. The massive success of the Mustang led to competition within the American automotive companies, each trying to rise to the challenge with their own pony cars, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. The Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car and with its iconic sporty coupe styling, long hood and short deck design there's no surprise as to why it caught on so quick and continues to be popular today, as its now in the 6th generation of production, and upcoming 7th generation to debut in 2024.
Introduced at the New York World's Fair in 1964, the first-generation Mustangs spanned until 1973 with a major restyle for the 1969 year. Nearly every dimension had increased in length and width adding extra weight and a notably aggressive stance to the body. The 1969 models also saw rear quarter panel vents installed on convertibles along with a complete interior redesign and 10 different engine options available. Unique to these 69 models were quad headlamps that were later removed for the 1970 model to feature a wider grille as Ford started to move towards a more luxury approach.
Offered here is a 1969 Ford Mustang Convertible finished in Candyapple Red exterior paint (originally Code-4 Silver Jade) over factory correct Code- 7A Black Deluxe Vinyl interior that looks as good as new. This Mustang was built September 27th of 1968 powered by its original 302ci V8 engine rated at 220 factory horsepower with a date code of September 23rd, 1968, paired with a Select-Shift Automatic 3-speed transmission. Under the hood features an upgraded Weiand aluminum intake and Holley Street Warrior carburetor rated at 600 CFM, along with long tube exhaust headers and dual exhaust to free up some additional horsepower.
A highly desirable convertible was ordered with a very rare luxury model body code “76B” with a powered black top with Backlite Glass. This Mustang comes equipped with the Deluxe Interior Décor Group option which includes ComfortWeave low back bucket seats with headrests, courtesy lights, molded door trim with woodgrain applique & arm rests, faux wood 3-spoke RimBlow steering wheel, remote driver side mirror, woodgrain instrument panel and radio surround as well as an electric clock on the passenger side dash pod. Other features include power steering, power front disc brakes, power folding convertible top with glass backlite, aftermarket American Racing thrust wheels, deluxe seatbelts with warning light indicator, center console, spare tire, and an AM/FM cassette radio by AudioVox.
This Ford Mustang was built in Dearborn Michigan and released to Thorncrest Motors LTD in Ontario Canada and sold on February 5th, 1969. After being acquired from a longtime Massachusetts owner of 22 years, this Mustang arrived at our museum and received an oil change with new engine oil filter; rebuilt carburetor; new distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, coil & ignition wires; new aluminum radiator, hoses, & clamps; new distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, coil & ignition wires; new aluminum radiator with 6-blade flex fan, coolant hoses, & clamps; fresh drive belts; new powered by Ford valve covers & gaskets; new air & fuel filters; oil pressure switch; new front end with control arm assemblies, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, & bushings; new front brake pads, rotors, & hoses; all new wheel bearings; new Monro-Matic+ shocks front & rear; 4-wheel alignment; new battery & cables; wiper blades; and fresh Cooper Cobra Radial GT tires.

This Ford Mustang Convertible has just 94,207 miles on the odometer and showcases an older repaint finished in June 2004 by F.C.R. Inc. based in Weymouth, MA. It would easily satisfy the weekend show-goer and fair-weather driver enthusiast without complaint! Moreover, this Mustang represents one of only 3,439 convertibles produced with a Deluxe Interior Décor Group making it exceptionally rare!
