When two manufactures of precision crafted products unite in a single effort to collaborate on a project, good things result. In the case of Mercedes Benz teaming up with Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen, they developed an exclusive example of the sporty 2006 CLS55 AMG, of which only 55 would be hand-crafted for the public. Each car would be identical in presentation and loaded with all the available options from the luxury auto maker. They would be called the IWC Ingenieur Edition. All special order, all very exclusive!
The details of car would include a custom gauge cluster designed by IWC to include black dials with rhodanized and silver needles backlit with white lighting. The design was to match in style to the IWC Ingenieur watch that would be sold separately. Detail touches on the car itself include an exterior finish in Dark Titanium Grey Metallic with a Matte Titanium Metallic paint finish to the radiator grill slats, fog light trim ring surrounds, upper door handles, and rear trunk trim. The same galvanized matte finish highlights all the traditional chrome elements of an AMG interior, giving this special edition a unique presentation complete from the AMG illuminated door sill plates to several touch surfaces throughout the interior. The seating surfaces themselves are also special with a Matte Titanium Nappa leather color, along with Designo piano lacquer black wood trim and alcantara headliner.
Mercedes Benz was sure to include all their latest convenience and comfort equipment. This included the Keyless Go, Parktronic sensors, Drive Dynamic seats, Lighting Package with bi-xenon headlamps, Premium Package with DVD navigation, heated/cooled seats, COMAND Bluetooth, Harmon Kardon Logic7 digital surround sound CD audio system, electronic trunk closer, power sliding/ tilt moonroof, and the full standard arrangement of power accessories, quad zone climate control, air ride suspension, ABS, Electronic Stability Program, and traction control features.
The CLS55 AMG power plant features a 5.5L Supercharged SOHC 24-valve V8 that produced 469 horsepower and 516 lb. ft. of torque! This power is harnessed through a 5-speed automatic transmission and limited slip rear axle. Our example was treated to the entire suite of RENNTech upgrades to achieve Stage 3 performance. This began with a new high-efficiency intercooler, new 82mm throttle body, ECU upgrade, extra large crankshaft pulley, carbon fiber airbox, and stainless steel long tube headers. The resulting enhancements now push the horsepower to 588 horsepower and 616 lb. ft of torque. The transmission would upgraded internally with stronger clutch packs, all new gaskets & seals, then fitted with a lock up clutch torque convertor. And finally, the rear differential would be carefully rebuilt by RENNTech specialists to achieve 100% limited slip capability for maximum traction in any driving condition! The RENNTech package options didn't stop there! This car is also fitted with their toe link kit and rear camber adjustment kit, along with upgraded 20” Asanti Forged wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 255/30ZR20 up front and 305/25ZR20 at the rear. It is dynamic road car that continues to offer the comforts Mercedes Benz intended, all the while ready to be driven aggressively on the street or track. The total cost of the upgrades came to over $41,000!
This 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS55 AMG sedan has had only 2 owners from new, with the second owner completing the RENNTech upgrades after his acquisition in November/December 2014 when the car had only 31,000 on the odometer. Today, the odometer reads just 37,968 miles. It has never had any accident history, paint work, or been abused in any way. The CarFax report is clean and shows a brilliant history of being serviced almost exclusively by Mercedes Benz since day one! This presents a terrific opportunity for the next owner to enjoy not just an exclusively rare CLS55 AMG IWC Ingenieur sedan, but one enhanced by the best and longest running Mercedes tuners in the industry. Act quickly on this one!
