Beautifully built Shelby GT350 convertible clone for sale with powerful 351W V8, 5-speed T5 transmission, power rack & pinion steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, and more! A very impressive & convincing tribute to a very rare and hard to find original!
The contractual relationship between Ford Motor Company and Shelby American was coming to a close in the summer of 1969. With Ford taking over much of the design aspects, and all production of the cars themselves, it was only Carroll Shelby's performance namesake that provided the contribution of the famed GT-class of Mustangs. A distinctly new design for the Mustang bearing his name was of little resemblance to the standard Mustang found on showrooms in 1969. This new Shelby would have a custom fiberglass hood with three forward facing NASA scoops to gulp air into the engine bay, with the center one feeding directly to the carburetor's intake system. Two rearward scoops helped pull hot air out, while the extended fiberglass front fenders also received inlets to allow air to the front disc brakes for added cooling. At the back, a fiberglass deck lid & rear fender extensions received a pronounced spoiler, with sequential style taillights borrowed from the 1965 Thunderbird. Under the front bumper, you will find the signature Lucas fog lamps, and at the back a special, aluminum exhaust collector system with a very unique center exit! A wide body side stripe made it easy to identify the GT350 and GT500 variants. All cars possessed standard power disc brakes, power steering, roll bar, and Deluxe interiors. Special equipment came by way of engine size, transmission style, a center console housing auxiliary oil pressure & alternator gauges, with individual switches for the fog lights & interior courtesy lights. New aluminum 5-spoke wheels measured 15×7” wearing Goodyear Polyglas rubber really helped highlight these fresh body lines!
Production totals were very limited these last two years with 2,364 Shelby's sold in 1969, and the balance of 789 production units sold as 1970 models. Of these 3,153 final edition Ford Shelby's, the rarest would be the GT350 Convertible, with just 194 built. They were fitted with a 351ci Windsor V8 with the aluminum intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor rated at 290 horsepower. Today, just finding any 1969 Ford Mustang convertible can be a challenge with so few produced, but the Shelby Convertible version will prove to be the most difficult, and most expensive to own today!
Offered here is a rare 1969 Ford Mustang 76B Convertible classic car for sale converted with authentic Shelby GT350 attributes. Beginning life as a 351ci powered convertible with Deluxe interior for a San Jose, California Ford dealer, it survived in the dry climate of the west coast nearly all its life. It had made its way to San Diego, CA for the Shelby body conversion, before making its way to Shelby connoisseur, Bruce Farnsworth, in Maine in approximately 2014. Once there, a new 351W engine would be overhauled by Bob Dorr of RPM Specialties with the addition of a Weiand Stealth aluminum intake, Holley Performance 650cfm carburetor with electric choke, Pertronix HEI Flame Thrower ignition, Hedman Hedders tube exhaust manifolds, finned Cobra aluminum valve covers, and installed under the hood with a upgraded power rack & pinion steering system, Borg Warner World Class T5 5-speed manual transmission, and 9” Ford rear axle!
The body remained wonderfully rust free with an older paint finish very suitable for shows and confident driving exposure. Underneath, the original floors and torque boxes are in excellent condition with welded sub-frame connectors added for extra rigidity. The motor breaths out through a stainless steel Magnaflow exhaust system with X-pipe out the correct Shelby rear collector and center tip! New KYB shocks front & rear, front Grab-A-Trak coil springs, and new BF Goodrich Radial T/A white letter tires round out a solid stance! Options include power disc brakes, power steering, brand new Old Air Products modern air conditioning system, glass back-lite convertible top, remote driver's mirror, aftermarket AM/FM radio, windshield washer; and Shelby items to included steering wheel with rim blow horn, wood shift knob, door & dash emblems, sill plates, and even the proper interior glove box sticker! This remarkable transformation can fool any unsuspecting onlooker quite easily! It is loaded with all the right options, and really hits the road exceptionally well! With some 4,000 miles already added to the odometer since completion, we feel this example comes very well sorted and ready to enjoy! Please call with any questions or schedule a chance to review in person! This is one we don't expect to stay around very long!
