This Ford F5 tow truck has been completely renovated mechanically to be roadworthy once again! New brakes, ignition, exhaust, tires, fuel system, all fluids, battery, and more! A worthy tow truck left to rest in Oklahoma now lives again powered by a 1970s Ford 302ci V8 and 4-speed manual transmission! A great head turner!
The first generation of the Ford F-Series truck came about in 1948, and lead the way to Fords trucks success that continues today! With over eight weight ratings available, you could literally find a chassis for about any commercial application. Ford have dominated this sector of the market ever since!
Offered here is a 1950 Ford F5 Commerical Tow Truck built with a stylish Butler Manufacturing Company rear bed. It is finished with an older finish of Classic White that obviously shows excellent patina today! Power was upgraded using a more modern 302ci V8 and 4-speed manual transmission while retaining the balance of the original drivetrain, which includes the factory 2-speed rear end. Originally equipped with a chain-driven PTO-operated towing apparatus from the original engine, it is no longer functional today. So, it has been fitted with a very sturdy, handmade boom for the time being but should be considered for display purposes only. Additional features include oversized front push bumper, functional flashing roof lights, front spot light, roof spot light, and rear spot lamp, cab lights, interior courtesy light, bed side tool box, driver sun visor, and more!
This vehicle was located in theKansas area where it sat preserved for many years. After being towed to St. Louis, MO, we had the opportunity to recommission this truck entirely! Starting with six all new 7.50-20 tires tubes, we had the wheels refinished and freshly painted red. The brakes were all serviced to include new master brake cylinder, all new wheel cylinders at the wheels, front brake hoses, and fresh brake fluid, resealed gas tank, new fuel pump lines, new fuel sender, fuel filter, and rebuilt Motorcraft 2-bbl carburetor, new front tie rod ends, new kingpin bushings, flushed radiator sealed, new coolant, new carrier bearing, new rear axle seals, new ignition system to include cap, rotor, points, condenser, spark plugs wires, new battery cables, new exhaust system, rewired all exterior lights, replaced front fender lamps and rear taillight housings, new turn signal assembly switch, replaced the oil temp water temp sensors, and more!
We finished the truck off with a full display of new vinyl graphics reading Wallys Towing and Auto Service to bring out the historic beauty this Ford completely deserved! We are very proud of the results and would like to offer it to another collector to display with their private collection or take to the next level of refurbishment. We find it ready to enjoy either way! Please call with additional questions or to schedule a chance to review in person!
