The 1965 Corvette Sting Ray continued on the success of the mid-year String Ray with subtle changes. The hood vents were removed, and a trio of fender vents now effectively reduced engine heat, with the standard wheel covers redesigned to accommodate standard 4-wheel disc brakes that improved braking capability & lifespan. Also new for 1965 were integrated door panel armrests, better seats, and redesigned grill. It proved to be a successful year with Chevrolet selling 23,564 examples, of which 15,378 would be convertibles!
Offered here is a mid-December production 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible now refinished in Rally Red over Black Vinyl upholstery. This is fully numbers matching example fitted with a HT-code L79 327ci/350 horsepower V8, 4speed wide-ratio Muncie transmission, and AM-code 3.36:1 Posi-Traction rear axle ratio, it continues to retain its 100% factory installed drivetrain! Other options included power steering, polished wheel covers with spinners, Soft-Ray windshield, carpeted floor mats, interior courtesy lights, upgraded AM/FM/Cassette radio, and more!
This unique Corvette Sting Ray Convertible was cosmetically restored by its former owner many years to include new exterior paint, all new black interior, new door & window weather stripping, all new front end steering & suspension components, front & rear sway-bar bushings with new end links, all new brake hoses & hard lines with new emergency brake cables, new rear mufflers, and more. It retains an original body with all factory bonding stripes present, all factory original drivetrain equipment, and only a few upgrades. These include an Edelbrock E-Street Fuel Injection System hidden under the factory air cleaner, also utilizing the factory Winter’s foundry aluminum intake manifold, double hump hydraulic lifter heads, stock exhaust manifolds, and retaining all factory ignition shielding. This outstanding system works with its own computer to optimize fuel delivery through an electronic ignition provided from an MSD 6AL Digital HEI system & Pro-Billet distributor! Visually, the only obvious components are the Summit thermostat housing to utilize a temperature sensor, along with stainless steel braided fuel lines. Since its arrival here at the Car Museum, we have fully serviced the engine fluids and replaced the tires with new Uniroyal Tiger Paw 1” whitewall radials. It starts and runs with incredible ease, hot or cold, with this modern EFI system! Total mileage on this drivetrain add up to 4,554 miles on the odometer.
