Late 1972 production Corvette featuring the last of the desirable chrome bumper design! It represents one of only 6,508 convertibles built, and comes heavily optioned with all the desired options! Numbers matching 350ci V8, automatic transmission, air conditioning, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering column, leather interior, power steering & brakes, and more!
The Corvette was geared up from some significant changes leaving the 1971 model year, and not necessarily to their appearance. It would be the last of the chrome front & rear bumpers, bright egg crate style grill with matching side fender vents, but the biggest change came by way of the measuring criteria of reported horsepower. Although identical to 1971 in every way, the reported horsepower was no longer gross horsepower, but instead now listed by net horsepower after things like the air cleaner, exhaust systems, and accessories were taken into account. This meant the standard horsepower of the base engine option was no longer 270hp, but advertised as 200hp. It didn't seem to affect Corvette buyers though, as production increased by nearly 30 percent! And with just over 27,000 Corvettes produced in 1972, only 6,508 convertibles would be available for a lucky select few!! This represents a rare opportunity for serious Corvette collectors worldwide!
Offered here is a beautifully restored 1972 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible finished in factory code correct 973- Mille Miglia Red over 404- Black Leather interior! Options and features include numbers matching CKX-code350ci V8 200 horsepower engine, automatic transmission, 3.08Posi-Traction axle ratio, air conditioning, power steering, power4-wheel disc brakes, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering column, rear luggage rack, factory alarm, carpeted floor mats, Delco AM/FM pushbutton radio, dual outside mirrors, and 15 rally wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A raised white letter tires!
This June built example sold new from a prominent Chevrolet dealer in Kingston, NC to Lenwood Murphy on July 31st, 1972. It would remain in the Carolinas before leaving to a Texas collection in2013 through an Alabama Corvette dealer. This southern kept example has seen a comprehensive cosmetic restoration to include beautifully refinished exterior paint, refurbished interior, new weather stripping, and new black convertible folding top! Mechanically, it has been cared for by Reynolds Auto Works of Shelby, NC to include rebuilt braking with all new calipers & brake master cylinder, rebuilt alternator, new transmission mount, resealed transmission with new gasket, output seal, & pan gasket; power steering hoses, new distributor shaft & tachometer gear, complete tune ups, and more!
