Outstanding 2-owner example with only 65,000 original miles! The original owner preserved this example for 34 years! Rare color combination, all numbers matching with original paint, great options, and an excellent driver in every respect! Act quickly! This one is hard to find again!
Porsche has always been widely known for making performance improvements to their namesake 911 vehicles. Since their initial launch, the 911 had seen suspension, engine, and chassis upgrades each and every year to ensure buyers would always find reason to purchase the newest version. Even today, Porsche continues this tradition. Going back to 1978, the Porsche 911 was reintroduced as the SC, or Super Carrera, version that incorporated a new 3.0L engine making an astounding 180 horsepower. For basis of comparison, the Chevrolet Corvette made only 175hp with its base 350ci V8 engine in 1978! The new Porsche 911 was once again a powerhouse in the sports car arena! Today, a well-tuned 911SC continues to be one of the most enjoyable cars to drive in any street environment!
We could not be more excited to offer this 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa Coupe finished in rare Mocha Brown over Cork Leather interior! Completely original and surviving with the original owners from March1981 through to August 2015, it remained virtually 100% original with exception to the upgraded audio system and Marchal headlamps! Options include numbers matching 3.0L Horizontal Flat 6 with 9.3:1 compression, 5-speed 915 manual transmission, factory air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, 16 Fuchs alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot tires measuring 205/55ZR16 up front and 225/50ZR16 at the rear, right outside mirror, Bilstein sport shocks, floor mats with added COCO mats, electric clock, and more! The paint remains all original with exception to the rear engine deck lid. It had received a commonly installed dealer spoiler at some point, but was removed by its 2nd purist owner in 2015. The deck lid was professional stripped, holes filled, and repainted to a perfect color match. It will be the only panel on the car not meeting the 3.0-4.5mil factory paint meter depth.
The car delivered new to Porsche-Audi of North Dublin, OH and was used as a demo unit before being sold from a neighboring dealer, Coliseum Imports of Fort Wayne, IN on March 25, 1981. The original owner, already a Porsche owner, traded in his 1978 Porsche 924 Coupe to complete the deal! He kept this one for the next 34 years! It has always been serviced regularly, garage kept, and never abused! We have plenty of records to support the mileage indications, and to avoid any confusion, the original speedometer failed which resulted in a replacement of the factory speedometer/odometer unit by Coliseum Porsche in April 1981 when it read 6,080 miles. This is documented by dealer stamp in the original service manual. More recently, it has been fully serviced with fresh valve adjustment, oil change, a/c charge, and new battery.
The factory owners manual, booklet, tools, early electric tire compression, untouched factory spare tire, and all original sales documentation are included. It has also already been upgraded with Carrera oil fed chain tensioners and the air box pop-off valve. It is a superb, and we mean superb, example of what a well-cared for 911 should be, and it drives with absolute precision! It offers crisp, precise steering, easy clutch engagement, tight shift pattern without any grinding, and braking that promises instant response. A very rare opportunity for any Porsche enthusiast to secure a 911SC Targa with only two previous owners! You would be challenged to find a finer example anywhere! We recommend astute collectors act quickly!
